Shape Up

Shape Up appetite

Appetite asks how much time an opportunity is worth, before estimating a solution. It changes the conversation from cost justification to intentional constraint.

Set time first

Choose whether a problem deserves a small, medium, or full-cycle investment. The boundary is a product decision, informed by value and opportunity cost.

Shape to fit

Once appetite is known, shape a solution that fits it. If the idea cannot fit, reduce the ambition or decide it is not the right bet now.

Protect the boundary

During building, the team can cut or adjust scope to honor the appetite. Hill charts help show whether uncertainty is consuming the available time.
