Shape Up

Shape Up breadboarding

Breadboarding is a low-fidelity way to map the places, affordances, and connections in a product flow. It reveals interaction gaps without requiring visual design.

Name places and affordances

Describe screens or states as places, then list the controls and information available there. This makes the shape of a solution inspectable.

Map connections

Draw what happens when a person uses each affordance. The result is a practical interaction model, not a polished wireframe.

Expose shaping risks

Breadboards make missing states and rabbit holes visible early. Use them with an appetite so the flow is deliberately bounded before the team begins.
